Xbox responds to the controversy over the return of Banjo-Kazooie

Recently, the gaming community has been abuzz with rumors about the possible return of Banjo-Kazooie, Rare’s iconic franchise that captured the hearts of gamers since its early days on Nintendo 64. Speculation was further ignited when the sequel was announced for Nintendo Switch Online, and since then fans have been holding out hope for a new title in the series.

However, recent statements by Xbox executives have cast doubt on this possibility. Aaron Greenberg, Xbox’s vice president of marketing, has spoken out about these rumors, after one of his statements at an event was interpreted as a sign of disinterest in the series.

Doesn’t anyone care about Banjo-Kazooie? Greenberg clears up misunderstanding

The controversy began when Greenberg, during a recent event, appeared to dismiss the importance of Banjo-Kazooie after a question about franchises that fans want to see on Xbox consoles. According to YouTube channel Door to the Basement, Greenberg said in a sarcastic tone that “nobody cares about Banjo-Kazooie.” These words, coupled with the lack of recent announcements about the franchise, led many fans to believe that Microsoft had no interest in reviving the series.

However, Greenberg quickly clarified via social media that his comment had been misinterpreted. The executive explained that the phrase was a joke that was taken out of context and that, in fact, Xbox is well aware of the affection and appreciation that the community feels for Banjo-Kazooie.

The reality of Banjo-Kazooie: No immediate plans for a comeback

Despite Greenberg’s statements and fan anticipation, the reality is that there are currently no official plans for a new Banjo-Kazooie game. Even the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has previously stated that any decision on the return of Banjo-Kazooie depends exclusively on Rare, the studio responsible for the saga, which is currently focused on Sea of Thieves. This title has been one of Rare’s biggest successes in recent years and has a dedicated team constantly updating it with new content.

While these statements seem to close the door on a Banjo-Kazooie return in the near future, many fans remain hopeful that Microsoft and Rare may consider the franchise at some point.

Banjo-Kazooie on Nintendo Switch and Xbox

In the meantime fans can relive his adventures through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack or on Xbox platforms, where the franchise is still available thanks to the partnership between Microsoft and Nintendo. This partnership has allowed a new generation of players to discover and enjoy the adventures of the bear and the bird.

Will we see the return of Banjo-Kazooie someday?

Although there are no official announcements of a new game, fan interest in the franchise is still evident. Time will tell if Rare and Xbox decide to revive this beloved platforming saga, but for now, fans will have to settle for reliving the classic titles and hold out hope that, one day will shine again with a new installment.
