The controversy began when Greenberg, during a recent event, appeared to dismiss the importance of Banjo-Kazooie after a question about franchises that fans want to see on Xbox consoles. According to YouTube channel Door to the Basement, Greenberg said in a sarcastic tone that “nobody cares about Banjo-Kazooie.” These words, coupled with the lack of recent announcements about the franchise, led many fans to believe that Microsoft had no interest in reviving the series.
However, Greenberg quickly clarified via social media that his comment had been misinterpreted. The executive explained that the phrase was a joke that was taken out of context and that, in fact, Xbox is well aware of the affection and appreciation that the community feels for Banjo-Kazooie.

The reality of Banjo-Kazooie: No immediate plans for a comeback
Despite Greenberg’s statements and fan anticipation, the reality is that there are currently no official plans for a new Banjo-Kazooie game. Even the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has previously stated that any decision on the return of Banjo-Kazooie depends exclusively on Rare, the studio responsible for the saga, which is currently focused on Sea of Thieves. This title has been one of Rare’s biggest successes in recent years and has a dedicated team constantly updating it with new content.
While these statements seem to close the door on a Banjo-Kazooie return in the near future, many fans remain hopeful that Microsoft and Rare may consider the franchise at some point.

In the meantime fans can relive his adventures through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack or on Xbox platforms, where the franchise is still available thanks to the partnership between Microsoft and Nintendo. This partnership has allowed a new generation of players to discover and enjoy the adventures of the bear and the bird.
